This is a great little exercise that can be easily turned into holiday card making. What I like about it is that you never really know what comes out; there is limited control of the outcome. Once the image is opened it will naturally be followed with a conversation of “what do you see in this drawing”, similar to laying on the grass searching for shapes in the clouds. One may add details to the drawing with some colored pencils after it’s dry.
Oh, and did I mention it’s addictive?
And that any child can do it?... really.
So make sure you have lots of supplies and a place to let the drawings dry.
You will need:
1. Paint
2. Sparkly glue for some holiday shimmer (optional)
3. Cardstock paper or construction paper (you may want to cut the paper smaller than 8½”x11” , the card should fit nicely in the envelope when the paper is folded on itself)
We used blank envelopes and folded cards from Michaels.
4. Scissors (optional)
5. Colored pencils (optional)
What to do:
Squirt some paint on the paper in any shape you like. Use some different colors, bright colors always come out nice.
Fold paper on itself and press.
Open up and say- ‘WOW’
It probably looks like some sort of butterfly…
Experiment with where you place the paint on the paper, and how You fold the paper (try different angles, and few different times). After it’s dry, you may cut around the shape to get away from the squareness of the card.

For Chanukah cards we have been painting half menorahs on one side of the card, after folding the paper we got a full size symmetrical menorah.
